Extreme Makeover: Home Edition CADMAN POURS FOR EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team arrived in the Seattle area to change the lives of the Chapin family in Kirkland! Led by Doyle Custom Homes and the Building Industry Association of Washington, homebuilders from all over Washington State volunteered to take on the challenge. Cadman was honored to be part of this very special project, supplying -over 100 cubic yards of concrete. The project was on a fast track, so Cadman used a concrete mix with accelerators, allowing the footings and foundation wall mix to set in 20 minutes. The goal was to set the wall panels immediately behind the footing pour, pour the walls three hours later, and backfill within 5 hours of completion. Cadman also supplied the artistic decorative shotcrete for features around the swimming pool. This shotcrete was carved, creating beautiful rock sculptures enhancing the backyard landscape. Nearly 100 years old, the family’s existing home was no longer a safe place for Connie to raise her children, Molly, Anna, Rachel, and Daniel. Lead paint, asbestos floor tiles, and rotting floor joists made it a disaster waiting to happen. In addition, Connie’s source of income, the backyard pool where she teaches children to swim and hosts kids’ birthday parties, needed an overhaul to meet the city’s requirements. In keeping with the Northwest’s leadership in green building, the BIAW-Doyle Custom Homes team vowed to create a home that is perhaps the greenest project Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has ever done. From energy-efficient heating to non-toxic materials to water-saving landscaping to long lasting durable concrete, the Chapin's new home will be certified to the highest level of Built Green™and ENERGY STAR®, helping the family save money and stay healthy for years to come. Cadman’s commitment to Built Green and Sustainability fits perfectly into the philosophy that Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has adopted for this environmentally friendly project.
